Hello and welcome to the GNFC! I am very excited to be serving as Co-President after spending two years as Newsletter Copy Editor. My main goals as one of the leaders for our amazing organization is to make it as inclusive as possible for all families and to continue investing our collective time and effort in volunteerism and community outreach.

I was raised outside of Washington, D.C., attended college in central Virginia and then moved to Chicago where I met my husband Nick. We moved to Newburyport six years ago and have fallen head over heels in love with the area. I previously worked in the fitness, health and management fields and now care for my daughters Sophie and Lucy full time. I enjoy staying active with my family, cooking, volunteering and taking advantage of all of the fun activities that our wonderful community has to offer.

I am so excited to be stepping into the role of Co-Vice President of the Board of the GNFC this year! I grew up in Ipswich and after more than a decade away from the area, moved to Newburyport five years ago with my husband and dog. I now have a 4-year-old daughter who keeps me on my toes and inspires me to learn and grow right alongside her while experiencing life through her eyes. I truly enjoy coastal living and taking advantage of all the best that Newburyport has to offer. I am a realtor, a real estate investor, and a property manager. I’m also a wife, a mother, a friend, a volunteer, a ballroom dancer, and so much more. I place a high value on my relationships, am fiercely loyal, and strive to do my very best for others. If we haven't met yet, I hope we do soon.

About Me:  A year ago I was a new mom struggling with all the things new moms deal with – sleepless nights, when to introduce certain foods, stressing as to whether is he eating enough… or too much. To add to the list, I had just moved. I was at a loss for my community and mommy friends that I left in Colorado – a place that had been home for almost a decade. I also had a running list of worries, like where do I bring Sam when he got sick, the random “is this normal?” questions, and then the obvious one, “how do I connect with other parents with young kids?” And then I met a mommy who told me about the GNFC – it was a lifesaver. I joined a playgroup, asked all my questions, snagged some good clothing and toy deals, got a ton of recommendations [from pediatricians and dentists to local activities], and have met some pretty stellar mommies. A year older and wiser, I knew I had to give back to Newburyport, a place we have fast fallen in love with, and to this amazing organization.
About me: I have a very active son named Sam, who turns two in April, a black lab named Summit with a lot of puppy left in him, my husband Jon who is also high-energy, and a big ol’ Newburyport fixer-upper that keeps me busy. On the weekends, we try to escape the house – and you can find us romping around town, in the woods, at the park, or on the beach. You can contact me at

Name: Tara Bogorad
Role: Secretary

About Me: Hi There! I'm Tara and it's my third year on the GNFC board. I'm originally from upstate New York (just outside of Saratoga) and met my charming husband Ilya while living in New York City. Ilya persuaded me to make the move to the North Shore of Massachusetts (I told you he was charming!) and I couldn't be happier to have landed here in Newburyport. I'm a very proud mom of two spectacular boys, Lucas (5 years) and William (2 year). They keep me on my toes... so much love, so little sleep. Prior to stay-at-home momhood, I earned a degree in art history and worked for various eyewear designers.

I joined the board to pay forward some of the sheer awesomeness that I've experienced as a member of this group. New baby? We'll bring you dinner. Climbing the walls during the winter months? Here's a fun activity to get your kids out of the house. Need to borrow a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles costume stat? We've got you covered.

I'm forever grateful for the fast friendships and frank discussions I've enjoyed during playgroups and can't say enough about what a great resource the forum has been for a transplant new to the area.

Name: Darcie Spaulding
Role: Treasurer

About Me: I am excited to serve the GNFC Board as the treasurer this year. I first joined the club when we moved to West Newbury in 2011. I had just had my second child, left my job in biotechnology to stay home full time, and moved to an area where I didn’t know anyone. It wasn’t the easiest year, but the GNFC made things much better. I not only found activities for my kids, but I starting building lasting friendships.

As sometimes happens, just as I was getting settled, our family moved away from the area for a few years for my husband’s work. When we returned last June, I was happy to jump back into the club, and joined the board to help out on the Large Events team. It has been a great way to get integrated back into the community, as well as maintain old and develop new friendships. I have gotten much more value out of the experience than I have given. I look forward to all 2017 has in store!

Name: Christy Teel
Role: Adult Outings Lead

About Me: Hi! My name is Christy Teel and this is my second year on the Board and as part of the Adult Outings Team. I joined the GNFC in 2013, right before the birth of our son, Anderson (3). The community, resources, friendships and support of the GNFC have been invaluable as first time parents and a member of the Newburyport community. During my time on the Board, I hope to plan activities that get other members excited about the Club, our community and meeting new people. If you have any ideas for Adult Outings that you would like to attend, please reach out to me!

In addition to my involvement with the Club, I am a part-time attorney for a medical malpractice firm in Boston, and a full-time mom. My husband, Jon, and I met and live in Newburyport with our three year old son, Boston Terrier (Roscoe) and cat (Zeus). We love to be outdoors, ski as much as possible in the winter and be on the water in the summer. Travel is a passion and we hope that our children will enjoy traveling with us!

The GNFC has been an incredible resource for our family, and I am glad to be able to contribute and give back to the Club and community by serving on the Board.

About Me: It's hard to believe that it's been over a year since I had my first child!  The experience was very exciting and rewarding for me but also a bit isolating and lonely.  It was an enormous blessing when I came across the GNFC and decided to become a member.  The club has been a fantastic network for me!  Not only have I met some amazing people but I have gotten involved in many activities and community events.  I'm honored to be able to give back to the club this year by serving as an Adult Outings Coordinator.
I'm originally from Upstate New Year but have lived in the Boston area for more than 15 years.  I moved to Byfield almost three years ago and have really enjoyed my time in this area.  I have one beautiful daughter named Evelyn.
During my time on the board, I hope to plan activities that get other others excited about being a part of this club as well!  I'm always open to new ideas so please feel free to contact me with any adult outings that you would love to see on our calendar.

About Me: This is my third year on the Board, having served my two previous years as part of the Large Events Team.I joined the GNFC in July 2014, a month before my husband, Christian, and my son, Nash (6), and I relocated to Newburyport from Brooklyn, NY (a bit of a homecoming for me, as I lived on the North Shore until I headed to warmer climates for college). The GNFC’s active online community proved invaluable and helped our family to really feel part of our new home before our actual move.

The GNFC continues to be an incredible resource for our family, and it is has offered me the opportunity to work alongside wonderful women whom I otherwise would not have met.  I value most the opportunity that the GNFC provides to volunteer in an organized and fun way for both GNFC orchestrated and community partner sponsored events.

Name: Janis Snell
Role: Large Events

About Me:This is my first year on the GNFC board and I could not be more excited to be joining the Large Events team.  My husband and I moved to Newburyport 5 years ago from NYC.  Most people comment that it must have been a big transition to move here from the city but with all Newburyport has to offer, like walkability to downtown and playgrounds, amazing restaurants and great shops, it wasn't that different!  Another integral step in becoming part of this community was joining the GNFC.  I met many of my friends through a playgroup set up by the club and I took advantage many of the events and new mothers' coffee hours.  I am so grateful for all the resources the club provided.

A year ago I started my own wedding calligraphy business and I balance my days between that and taking care of my two boys, Cameron age 5 and Tate age 2.  I'm looking forward to seeing you at the next event!

I work part time at Brigham and Women’s as an Embryologist and part time at my home business flipping and reupholstering furniture. Both are very rewarding being able to help people in different ways. I wanted to give back to the community, make new friends and enjoy events with my family as a member of the GNFC. Name: Lyndsey Pierro
Role: Kids Outings

About Me: I am so excited to be joining the GNFC Board for the first time to work with the Kid’s Outings team. I went to college in Burlington, Vermont where I met my husband Nathan. Having grown up in Essex, MA and being a North Shore native, I always knew that I wanted to raise my family in this beautiful coastal area. There is something special about this community that drew us here. We have been living happily in Newburyport for the past three years with our 18-month-old son Brooks.

I work full time as a Master Scheduler for a Nuclear Valve Company. As much as I love my job, I live for the weekends and spending quality time with my family. I enjoy running, going to the local parks and beaches, skiing, and spending time downtown Newburyport. My family has been enjoying the events GNFC has hosted over the past year and a half and I decided that now would be a good time to play an active role in this terrific organization. I look forward to giving back to this wonderful community and helping to create special memories for my family and yours.

I am so thankful to be part of this unique community, and as a new member of the Kids Outings Committee I am looking forward to working with this fantastic team and the local families!

I was born in the former Soviet Union, and after its collapse the people faced enormous economic problems... In 1997 I became one of the first UN volunteers in Kyrgyzstan to work on poverty reduction, and since then I was working with various non-profits in Eurasia and Middle East to promote equality, protect human rights and empower women.

My husband Kirk  and I worked in many different places, from Hungary to Iraq; since July 2015 we have been lucky to call Newburyport home. We both hope to form new friendships here and give back to this generous and welcoming community!
